Ka-Band Radar Cross-Section of Breaking Wind Waves

چکیده

The effective normalized radar cross section (NRCS) of breaking waves, σwb, is empirically derived based on joint synchronized Ka-band and video records the sea surface from a research tower. σwb key parameter that, along with breaker footprint fraction, Q, defines contribution non-polarized backscattering, NP =σwbQ, to total NRCS. Combined right representation regular Bragg specular backscattering components, component fundamental model interpret measurements. As first step, difference between NRCS values for non-breaking conditions scaled optically-observed Q compared geometric optics backscattering. Optically-derived might not be optimal represent effect waves Alternatively, we rely crest length that firmly detected by technique estimated decay (inverse wavelength) scale in direction wave propagation. A simplified then proposed using approach. This semi-analytical parameterizes along-wave reported roughness spectra, obtained laboratory experiments mechanically-generated breakers. These empirical estimates agree satisfactorily observations.

Dependence of the normalized radar cross section of water waves on Bragg wavelength-wind speed sensitivity

-Measurements of the normalized radar cross section (_o) made by the YSCAT nltrawideband scatterometer during an extended deployment on the Canada Centre for Inland Waters (CCIW) Research Tower located at Lake Ontario are analyzed and compared with anemometer wind measurements to study the sensitivity of cr° to the wind speed as a function of the Bragg wavelength. This paper concentrates on upw...

Attenuation Correction for Ka-band Cloud Radar Using X-band Weather Radar Data

In order to correct attenuated millimeter-wavelength (Ka-band) radar data and address the problem of instability, an attenuation correction methodology (attenuation correction with variation trend constraint; VTC) was developed. Using synchronous observation conditions and multi-band radars, the VTC method adopts the variation trends of reflectivity in X-band radar data captured with wavelet tr...

Monopole Antenna Radar Cross Section Reduction with Plasma Helix

In this paper, a new method for radar cross section reduction of a monopole antenna is proposed. In this method, a plasma helix like fluorescent bulbs is placed around the antenna element. The selected plasma parameter for this medium acts as an absorber without disturbing the antenna performance. The simulations show that radar cross section of simulated antenna is reduced in a wide frequency ...

Radar Cross-Section Estimation of SAR Images

We present an algorithm that is able to smooth out the speckle from many SAR images and which does not suuer from the drawbacks of multilooking. The algorithm is able to preserve the detail and resolution of the original image while producing a smooth, real-valued output. In many cases the quality of the smoothed image is suuciently high that it may be used with standard optical post-processing...

Microwave radar signatures of precipitation from S band to Ka band: application to GPM mission

Radars at different frequencies have been used over five decades for observing precipitation. S and C bands have been employed for long range coverage observations. Dual-polarization X-band radars have been shown to be useful for networked applications. Space borne precipitation radars have been at Ku band, or higher frequencies such as Ka, as in the GPM mission. This paper presents a comprehen...
